Amigurumi Giraffe

Image
One of the presents my daughter got at her birthday party, was a DIY packet to crochet a amigurumi giraffe.  A little, tiny bit difficult for someone who just turned six, I think, with the math that's necessary to crochet amigurumi, but of course it was a nice gesture. The one who picked this present to give isn't a crocheter, so she doesn't know.  It was a good moment though to learn my daughter the basics of crochet, so we started with making a chain. After an hour my daughter had a chain of about 20 cm and had enough of crochet for months, haha. So, guess who had to make the giraffe? ASAP, SVP?   www.betweennapsontheporch.net   ~*~ This week my Flamingo Piñata was featured by Scrapality !   Thank you, Andrea!  My Zebra-with-Luggage was featured by Creative Jewish Mom !   Thank you, too, Sara!

Neon Party

Image
My oldest daughter (who isn't that old, just eight) had her first dance party this week. To celebrate his birthday a class mate had invited the whole class for a disco party in the gym of his gymnastic club, with neon as a theme. I just love the idea of inviting the whole class, so no one feels excluded! At first I wanted to make a dress myself, but the fluorescent fabric I had in mind was nowhere to be found. Fortunately I found something at good old H&M that fitted the idea in my head quite well, so I took the easy way out by buying a skirt and neon paint, to embellish a shirt. www.betweennapsontheporch.net I think I'm quite handy, but when it comes to hair doing, I'm a great failure, so I asked my sil to do my daughters hair. Don't you love the result?! ~*~ My little Love Bug was featured by Oui Crochet this week!!   Thanks, Susie!! ~*~ My Fruit Slices were featured by Oombawka Design , by Linda's Crafty Corner and by D

Bubble Gum Cupcakes

Image
This is the last post involving the sixth birthday of my youngest, after this one I won't bother you anymore with things I made for her big day. Until next birthday, of course, haha! My most devoted readers know it: baking cakes and related is not my most glorious skill, but after seeing these great looking cupcakes on pinterest I just had to try! The biggest challenge was creating the bubbles, which are made from gelatin, but the cakes themselves weren't too difficult.   www.betweennapsontheporch.net After singing birthday songs, unwrapping gifts, eating cake and drinking lemonade, we went to the zoo. Here are just a few animal pictures (the wolf is my favourite wild animal, so I never fail to visit them).   ~*~  This week my Love Bug was featured by Sew Can Do and by Across the Boulevard !! Thanks, Cheryl!

Flamingo Piñata

Image
Flamingos.... I've almost reached the point I don't want to see them anymore for a long, long time, after all the birthday related stuff that had to be either pink of flamingo, but preferably both. Last year I felt th same about bunnies. This is the last flamingo for this birthday, but it's a great one! May I proudly present my Flamingo Piñata to you? www.betweennapsontheporch.net Because my daughters are sort of friends apart from their many fights, when one sister celebrates her birthday party for her school friends, the other sister is invited, too. And because that sister is a real invitee to the party, she brings a little gift. The birthday girl lost one of her earrings a while ago, so thinking about what to give, didn't take long. And this week I saw such an adorable way to 'wrap' a little packet, so the tiny earring box came in handy even more! This animal is from Schleich and they have lots of animals to choose from! ~*~ M

Mardi Gras King's Cake

Image
Since I've been to New Orleans, years ago, I wanted to make a King's Cake. Not that I was in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, but I loved that city and all that's in it. Even when you live in the Netherlands, like me, you know about New Orleans and Mardi Gras through movies and books.  In the Netherlands people are celebrating Carnaval. It's something similar to Mardi Gras and also prior to Lent. I've told my daughters about Mardi Gras and the King's Cake and hiding a little doll in a cake captured their imagination of course, especially when they heard about the lucky finder who has the right to tell the rest of the family what to do for a whole day!  They've whined about making the cake ever since. And because the whole family is busy on weekdays, sunday was the day! Unfortunately I didn't have purple food coloring, so the cake only was colored green and gold. But that was okay with my daughters, since for them it was only about the doll and be

Love Bug

Image
My sweet little daughters thought it would be nice if I would made this love bug for my husband. I think he will loooove it, will even take it to work to show it to his colleagues! Nope.  Don't think so. But the idea is super sweet! www.betweennapsontheporch.net So I made the bug anyway, but will give it to my daughters with Valentine's Day. Then I know for sure it will be appreciated!   ~*~ My Flamingo Skirt was featured by Threading My Way !   Thanks, Pam!  ~*~ My C2C Heart was featured by Scrapality ! Thanks, Andrea!!

Flamingo Pink Birthday Bunting

Image
Due to an broken arm because she fell of the little ladder of her bed, we had to postpone the birthday party for my littlest one. She wanted to go to the zoo with her school friends, which doesn't mean watching animals, as you may think, but climbing in climbing racks and stuff, in which the zoo is also providing.  The good side was, that I had a little longer to make decorations and such. Like this bunting.  www.betweennapsontheporch.net

Popcorn/Pretzels/M&M's/Marshmellows Cake

Image
For my daughter's birthday I made an extraordinary 'cake' from a mix of popcorn, M&M's, pretzels and melted marshmellows. I only tried a little piece myself, because it really is a kid's treat, but the combination of sugar and salt is delicious! The kids loved it! www.betweennapsontheporch.net I found the recipe for this cake here !! ~*~ The Nautical Knot Heart I made over a year ago was featured by Eye Love Knots ! Nice to see an old project back!  Thank you, Alexandra!
