Happy Halloween!!!

Image
Unfortunately we had a major leak in our house, so instead of working on the Haunted Doll House, my husband had to work on the leak. So there's no doll house to live in for all the monsters I made, but my daughters have enough fantasy, so they made their own house from a banana box. A while ago I found these great, great napkins, that I really didn't want to use for wiping grease from my mouth. I thought about using them with modpodge, to embellish boxes, but in the end it's a bottle that I made more beautiful with the skeletons. ~*~ My pictures of the most beautiful theme park of The Netherlands, De Efteling ,  were featured by Pieced Pastimes !  Thanks, Suzanne!

Berlin, Germany

This week my daughters had what they call Fall Vacation here in The Netherlands. Years ago my husband and I went to Berlin, Germany, with two friends, and we thought it would be nice to go back there for a couple of days, because it's a great city with good vibes.  Here are some highlights Brandenburger Tor Approaching from the west Eastside, at the start of Unter den Linden The quadriga on the Brandenburger Tor (quadriga being Latin for a four horse chariot) Neues Museum My nine year old daughter is bit into Ancient Egypt, so we had to visit the Neues Museum, of course. Unfortunately it wasn't allowed to takes pictures of their most beautiful piece: the bust of Nefertiti. Nonetheless: it was great! Really something I would recommend to anyone who's visiting Berlin.   My favorite piece was Nefertiti, but of course this mummy was the favorite piece of my daughters. To see a real mummy was on their wish list for

Beauty

Image
Just want you to show the beauty that I found living in my kitchen tonight... On the internet I found it isn't very uncommon to find those butterflies in your house. They can live for months and as it becomes colder, they're seeking shelter in barns and cellars and such. Or in houses. But when it's cold enough to warm up your house, it becomes too hot for them and they die. So after watching the butterfly for a while and giving it a little piece of apple, so it could take nips from it with its proboscis, I picked it up carefully and brought the butterfly outside. We have several nesting boxes for birds in the garden and I put it in there. The butterfly is a Peacock Butterfly (Aglais io) and lives in Europe and Asia. Its caterpillars live from nettles, which grow everywhere in The Netherlands, but nonetheless I don't see them very often.

Eye Ball Jar

Image
~With my husband I started this little collaboration to make a Haunted Doll House for my daughters. My husband makes the house and I crochet all the spooky dolls and stuff. Hopefully it will al be finished for Halloween ~ These Eye Ball Jar I made up myself. Just crochet balls, first round with black, second and third with a color that's normal for eyes and the rest of the ball in white. Make some arteries afterwards with red yarn.  www.betweennapsontheporch.net The Halloween Apothecary labels I found at The Graphics Fairy .

De Efteling

Image
This week the school of my kids had their yearly day off in the beginning of fall and traditionally we are going to the most beautiful theme park you can find in The Netherlands: De Efteling. No idea what an efteling is, so I can't translate here. This year we wanted to do and see the things we didn't do in the last couple of years, so we started with the wooden roller coaster Joris en de Draak (Saint George and the Dragon). No loopings, but with a speed of 75 km/h, it goes fast.  And what I personally like best in De Efteling is how things are designed. So much detail in everything.   Unfortunately it was a quite busy day. The whole reason we always wait until the first day off, is because the day off is only in our city, so all other kids in the country go to school, so it's quiet and waiting lines are short. But not this day. Our neighbouring countries appeared to have a holiday weekend and all came to visit De Efteling. We were just in time for Jori
