Dream Catcher for Kids

Since I  told my daughters about dream catchers and what they are for they seemed to have nightmares e-ve-ry night and really, really, REALLY needed a dream catcher. And because they were pretty convinced the nightmares would stop as soon as they had a dream catcher in their bed, I better could make one as soon as possible. Being the sweet mom that I am, I immediately started, of course.

The oldest needed a red one, the youngest really had to have a pink one.

Peacock Feather

I'm not really a fan of birds, but some of them have really nice feathers. Like peacocks. So when I found this lovely pattern, I wanted to make one, too. As a key ring holder. You can buy the pattern at The Curio Crafts Room.

Thanks, Shanice and Linda!

Pink Vase

Do you remember the two ugly brown vases I embellished with cherry blossom last year?

They looked better than they did before, but still I wasn't entirely satisfied with the result. They were standing in my window the whole year, but now I altered them again.
I had some pink paint left from the side table I painted two weeks ago and had a bit of copper paint, too, just enough to give one of the vases a make over.

I admit, it's especially the flowers that look so great! It's an orange Amaryllis and it's the orange that make the vase's colors look so vibrant. But still, I think it's progress that I achieved with painting the vase over again.

Paper Diamonds

After crocheting for month after month I seem to have a paper period for quite some time now. I folded lamps, bunny heads and tea light holders, made X-mas cards, cut paper X-mas decorations and after that I made a lot of paper birthday items and did some Valentine projects. And this week I made some paper diamonds. Just for decoration.

You can find a cutting and folding pattern here.

Be Mine

Baked a cake for my Valentine! A delicious one, with raspberry and buttercream filling!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Thank you!!

Newspaper Garland

My daughters (7 and 5) wanted to make something for Valentine's Day, too, so we took an old newspaper, cut squares, folded them, cut out hearts and made garlands of the hearts and the negatives, that we painted pink. Something nice for our kitchen.

And the kitchen door blackboard also has a Valentine's theme.

Nautical Knot Heart

When we were on vacation last summer, my husband installed an app with all sorts of nautical knots on his phone (don't ask why, we don't even have a boat). That's where I found this one. First I made a long 'rope' (French knitting) and after that I tied the knot. As you google on 'nautical knot heart' you'll definitely find how to do this.

Air Mail

Whenever my husband or I have a reason to give something to each other, we always give a book. There may be other presents, too, but there's always a book also. I think it isn't very difficult to find something for me, because there aren't a lot of topics I'm not interested in.
To find something for my husband is a lot more difficult. What sort of book do you buy for someone who reads a book called 'Calculus' before he goes to bed? And yes, 'Calculus' is just what you think it is when you hear its name: a book about math, a book full of formulas (my husband is a scientist, as you may have guessed). So most of the time I give him books about places where we've planned to go, because anything with formulas in it is beyond me.
This month we go to Antwerp, Belgium. It isn't really for Valentine's Day, but because we go without the girls, it's sort of a romantic weekend, so I bought a Lonely Planet about Belgium and packed it as a Valentine's present.
I made the air mail envelope myself. It's crochet and cross stitch.

I found this idea here.

Side Table

Since we are busy renovating our house (which takes lots of time because my husband wants to do everything by himself and he only has the weekends to work on it), we have to rearrange furniture from time to time. Instead of a large corner couch we now have two separate couches along two walls. I don't want empty corners that are just gathering dust (as is the case in empty corners in my house, ahum), so from an old bar stool frame and a table top that my husband sawed for me, I made a small side table to fill the space.

In the back you see one of the finished book shelves. My husband made a room en suite: on both sides of two sliding paneled doors with leaded glass we have two book shelves from floor to ceiling. The room en suite will become my craft space. Yes!
